Titans advance to volleyball regional semifinals

In a first round post-season match against rival Southeast Valley, the South Central Calhoun Titans varsity volleyball team took the first step of earning a possible 2017 Class 3A state volleyball berth by defeating the Jaguars 3-2 in Lake City Wednesday, Oct. 18 in the Class 3A, Region 2 quarterfinals. The match scores were as follows SCC won the first two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-13 while Southeast Valley bounced back with a pair of wins in sets three and four by the scores of 25-15 and 25-23 before the Titans were able to hold off the Jaguars and controlled the final set throughout by winning it with a 15-10 final to advance and end Southeast Valley’s season at 13-14 overall.
The Titans (34-7) will next face Roland-Story (28-10) Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Story City in a Class 3A, Region 2 semifinal round. The winner of that match will play Monday, Oct. 30 at a site to be determined at 7 p.m. in the Class 3A, Region 2 Final with a 2017 Class 3A state tournament berth on the line against either No. 2 Kuemper Catholic (36-2) or East Sac County (24-9).
