Titan girls advance in 3A regionals

In the opening round of 2018 Class 3A regional girls basketball play, the South Central Calhoun Titans burst out of the blocks early against rival Southeast Valley and cruised to a 64-30 victory over the Jaguars to advance to the regional semifinals round Saturday, Feb. 10.
SCC (21-2) overall will face Estherville-Lincoln Central Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in Rockwell City at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the regional final Saturday, Feb. 17 at Sioux Rapids. ELC was a 50-44 winner over the defending 3A champion Pocahontas Area Indians Feb. 10.
The Titans blazed to a 31-5 lead against the Jaguars and never looked back. SCC led 38-16 at the half and were up 60-24 after three quarters of action.
Heidi Hammen led the charge offensively against the Jaguars with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting including 3-for-6 from three-point range and she led the Titans in rebounds with 11.
Maddie Jones finished with 15 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds against Southeast Valley while Brielle Korleski was third in scoring with eight points and she grabbed four rebounds as well.
