SCC boys’ track team wins TLC championship, Jim Yunek Relays
Four titles in six years. It’s a statement of success for any program – high school, college or professional.
The South Central Calhoun boys’ track and field team exemplified such success, shown in their latest outing at the Twin Lakes Conference Meet on May 2 at Jaguar Field in Gowrie and in their final home meet of the 2019 season with the Jim Yunek Relays on May 3 at the SCC High School Track in Lake City.
In back-to-back days, the Titans came from behind to win the conference meet last Thursday before having fun and taking things easy last Friday. In both instances, though, SCC had topped the competition by surging past Pocahontas Area in Gowrie while fending off IKM-Manning on their proverbial Senior Night.
Speaking of those seniors – Jared Birks, Chase McAlister, Mason Merkley, Spencer Moon, Josh Van Hulzen and Andrew Westcott – the Class of 2019 had never lost a TLC Conference meet.
On tap for SCC will be one of the Class 2A Qualifying Meets, set for Thursday in Ida Grove. The Titans are revisiting the OABCIG’s home track, following their outing at the OABCIG Boys’ Invite on April 16.
Results from the meet, along with qualifiers for the Iowa State Track and Field Meet, will be posted in an upcoming edition of The Graphic-Advocate.
