For the first time this season, the South Central Calhoun varsity boys cross country team captured a team championship. They did so at the Pocahontas Area Cross Country Invitational Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Pocahontas Country Club as the Titans scored 61 points for the championship led by first place finisher in the varsity race — Spencer Moon, who finished in 17 minutes, 00.59 seconds.
“We ran very well this morning,” said SCC head coach Brian Knapp of the Pocahontas Area/L-M Invitational Sept. 30. “Our boy’s varsity won their first meet of the year and our boy’s junior varsity team record a perfect score of 15, taking places 1-5 in the JV race. The girls continued to show improvement, but have been bitten by the injury bug lately and are just starting to get healthy.”
Joining Moon on the winning varsity boys team were Nic Englin, who was seventh in 18:28.43, Matthew Clark (16th, 19:10.86), Chase Pibal (17th, 19:17.89), Jacob Stephenson (20th, 19:31.33), Ben Englin (24th, 19:44.40) and Sam Musselman (35th, 20:31.45).
In the varsity girls race, SCC placed sixth overall with 123 points as Emmetsburg won the meet with 40 points.
