An early hot three-point shooting performance by Hunter Decker of Sioux Central, who finished with a game-high 25 points including a 7-for-12 shooting effort from three-point range, helped the Rebels to an 22-11 first quarter lead and the South Central Calhoun varsity boys basketball team had to play catch-up the rest of the way in its 65-57 loss a 2018 Class 2A first round district contest in Manson Monday, Feb. 13.
The Titans bowed out of the post-season with a final mark of 8-14 overall while the Rebels would take on Alta-Aurelia Thursday, Feb. 16 in Alta and be eliminated by the Warriors by a 62-44 final.
The Titans would trail at halftime 38-25, but would outscore Sioux Central 16-11 in the third period to narrow the Rebels led to only a 49-41 advantage after three periods of play.
SCC was able to narrow the point margin to six points early in the fourth quarter and had a couple of chances to narrow the lead to only a four point deficit but came up empty and the Rebels would match the Titans point-for-point in the final eight minutes of play. The Titans were led by Zane Neubaum with 17 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the field and he was 4-for-7 from the free throw line against the Rebels.
