Three Titans earn titles at MVAO/COU Invitational

A trio of Titan varsity wrestlers earned championships at the 2017 MVAO/COU Kingsbury Invitational Friday, Dec. 8 in Mapleton. Jordan Khommanyvong at 132 pounds, Chase McAlister at 145 pounds and Brody Goodman at 160 each earned championships for the South Central Calhoun varsity wrestling team at the tournament. Overall, SCC was sixth in the team standings with 134 points while Cherokee won the meet with 197 points.
Taking home third place medals for SCC included Tristan Patterson at 195 and Brian King at 220. Josh Van Hulzen was fifth for the Titans at 170 while Ayden Toms (113), Keagan King (126) and Tanner Fistler (152) all earned sixth place. Also competing for SCC was Hunter Voith at 138 pounds.
Khommanyvong improved to 12-2 overall as he was 3-0 at Mapleton. He defeated A.J. Cardenas of Manson Northwest Webster in the finals by an 8-4 decision.
McAlister went 3-0 at the event as he improved to 14-2 overall as he defeated Bryson Freeburg of Tri-Center in the finals at 145 by a 12-6 decision.
