Supervisors give qualified approval of 4 and 20 water line extension

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors understood the stakes at their Aug. 27 meeting.
If they didn’t accept a request for the county to pay $200,200 to cover the cost of about 7,000 linear feet of water lines, getting water to the intersection of Highway 4 and U.S. 20 probably wouldn’t happen. But, supervisors were also wary of committing that much taxpayer money without knowing for sure that land will be available for development and without knowing which entity would be available to take the wastewater from the any businesses that build at the intersection.
Supervisor Scott Jacobs also made clear that the county was going to pay for what he described as an upcharge – the difference in cost between the water project Twin Lakes Utilities needs to do and the taking water lines along a longer route to extend water to an area the county has highlighted for more economic development.
