SMCH employee collects donations for Kick It campaign

Jeremy Johnson wanted to donate to Zane Neubaum’s Kick It campaign, which was raising money to help fund pediatric cancer research.
But Johnson, who is an anesthetist at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, wanted to do something a little bigger than just make a donation himself. So when he ran into Neubaum at the hospital earlier this fall, he asked the South Central Calhoun High School junior to come talk with him.
Johnson asked Neubaum how much money he had raised so far with his Kick It campaign, which allowed donors to pledge a dollar amount per point Neubaum earned as the SCC Titans football team kicker this season. That amount was somewhere near $1,300, Johnson said. He told the high schooler he would match that with a $1,000 donation from his own family, then sent an email to other SMCH employees asking them to pitch in. Everyone, from the housekeeping staff to nurses to administrative-level employees did, he said. So did some of his relatives.
