Five seats on the South Central Calhoun School Board are up for election this month. Voting is scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at two voting centers – the Calhoun County Courthouse basement in Rockwell City and the Lake City Community center.
District 1 (north), 4-year term
Kari Musselman, a Rockwell City/Lytton graduate and SCC parent, was appointed to the board earlier this year to fill a seat vacated by a board member who moved out of the district. Musselman, a case manager for a Medicaid agency who attended Iowa State University, said she wanted to be on the board to help the district focus on “just the overall education of our kids and improving the education.”
The district does a lot well now, Musselman said.
“Our district tries to provide support to our kids in all different aspects,” she said. “We have great teachers, paraeducators and administration. They provide a caring environment for our children.”
The district provides good academics, too, she said, noting the dual enrollment options available for high school students as one example. She also praised the district for involving community members as volunteers and guest speakers in classes.
