Scouts race wooden cars at annual Pinewood Derby

Cars were racing at the Calhoun County Expo Center Sunday afternoon, but there were no racing engines and the action happened indoors.
The center played host to the annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, with more than a dozen young Scouts and community members entering brightly painted and perfectly weighted cars in the races down a steep metal track.
Elijah Wilson, 8, a Wolf Cub Scout, credited his dad with helping him get ready for the big event.
“My dad built all of it and I chose the colors,” Wilson said. “I don’t know how it’s going to go.”
His racecar earned him a second-place medal and, despite his concerns about the IndyCar style design that was missing a front piece, the best design and paint award, too.
