SCC wins own Early Bird volleyball tournament, second at “Master Blaster”

South Central Calhoun’s varsity volleyball won the 2017 South Central Calhoun “Early Bird” Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Sept. 2 in Lake City, and placed second at the 2017 SCC “Master Blaster” Tournament in Rockwell City, Saturday, Sept. 9 to move their overall record to 18-4 overall.
The Titans, who went 6-0, at the “Early Bird” Tournament in Lake City, defeated Greene County (21-17, 21-9), topped Belmond-Klemme (21-6, 21-5), swept West Central Valley (21-5, 21-1), beat Audubon (21-9, 21-9) and won against South Hamilton (21-13, 21-13) to earn the tournament title with a perfect 6-0 record and 12-0 game record.
For the “Early Bird” Tournament, Emma McKinney led the Titans in kills with 26, Teylor Anderson led in assists with 81, Maddie Jones led in digs with 43 and ace serves with 10 while Hannah Seil and Heidi Hammen led SCC at the tournament in blocks with three each.
On Thursday, Sept. 7, SCC, currently ranked #13 in Class 3A, earned a five-game victory over rival Alta-Aurelia in Twin Lakes Conference varsity volleyball action as the Titans improved to 3-0 in the league. SCC won the match 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 18-25 and 15-12.
McKinney led in kills with 20 while Seil had 19. Anderson had 50 assists on the night and Jones had 27 digs to lead the way. Anderson had a 13-for-13 effort serving against the Warriors while Jones was 13-for-15 with two aces and McKinney was 14-for-15 with a pair of ace serves as well.
