SCC netters off to 5-2 start in 2017

South Central Calhoun’s varsity volleyball team finished with week at 5-2 overall following its 4-2 effort at the Humboldt Round-Robin Tournament Saturday, Aug. 26 in Humboldt. SCC picked up match wins at the tournament over Spirit Lake (21-11, 21-17) Humboldt (21-19, 21-15), Grand View Christian (21-17, 21-10) and Emmetsburg (21-15, 21-16). The losses at the tournament were to Fort Dodge (21-15, 20-22, 8-15) and Kuemper Catholic (13-21, 12-21).
Against Spirit Lake, Hannah Seil had four kills and was 12-for-12 serving with five aces to lead the Titans to the win. Teylor Anderson had 11 assists, three kills and was 8-for-8 serving with an ace. Maddie Jones and Drew Pochinski led in digs with four each.
In the match against Fort Dodge, Haley Stauter and Emma McKinney each had six kills while Heidi Hammen finished with five. Anderson had 19 assists. Jones led in digs with 12 and in serving with an 11-for-12 effort with an ace while Dez Blankenship was 6-for-10 with two aces.
In the win over Humboldt, SCC was led by Seil with 10 kills, Anderson with 16 assists, Jones with nine digs and Blankenship in serving with a 13-for-14 effort with one ace.
