SCC FFA celebrates the school year with field night

Dinner at the South Central Calhoun High School FFA school farm is a tradition for the organization, advisor Matt Carlson said Wednesday night.
Club members celebrated the start of school with the potluck dinner, inviting parents and community members to the annual event at the field just north of Lanesboro. One absent guest this year garnered a lot of attention. Carlson had been working for a year with his former student, Austin Jacobs, who is Gov. Kim Reynolds’ scheduler and communications advisor. About a week before the event, Reynolds confirmed she would be attending the event, but late Wednesday afternoon, Jacobs told Carlson an emergency had called the governor back to Des Moines from the Farm Progress Show.
Carlson and his fellow advisor, Brian Lantz, secured another speaker, state Rep. Mike Sexton, for the evening.
