When the South Central Calhoun Community School District announced that they closed down classes on March 15, the three buildings within Rockwell City and Lake City – once bustling with activity – stand silent.

While classes have yet to resume, the SCC Elementary School put together a plan for staff and students to interact while maintaining social distancing. It is also a way for staff to tell the students that they miss them and anticipate their return to class.

The SCC Elementary staff will partake in a “Wave Parade,” beginning at 9 a.m. in Rockwell City. Following its run through the Golden Buckle on the Corn Belt, the parade is estimated to run through Lytton at 9:45 a.m., Lake City at 10:30 a.m. before rolling through Lohrville at 11:15 a.m.

The “Wave Parade” was announced by the elementary school on Tuesday.

Students, when seeing the caravan or hearing the honking car horns, are asked to just step outside and wave to the parade.

East Sac County put together a vehicle wave parade on Tuesday, as did Manson-Northwest Webster. Many schools around the country are also holding wave parades to share how much teachers and staff have missed their students.

The full route maps are available on the South Central Calhoun Elementary's Facebook page.
