South Central Calhoun High School freshmen, sophomores and juniors gathered at the Lake City Community Building Monday morning to start the last eight days of class for this school year.
Students missed a week of classes following the May 10 tornado, which tore the roof off SCC High School.
Principal Randy Martin welcomed the students, providing instructions for how the next two weeks of school will proceed.
“Your routine is going to be changed,” Martin said. “For the next eight days, be flexible and be intelligent. Make the right decisions.”
He asked students to be respectful of the property in the buildings and to continue parking away from the town square.
“Academically, we’ll continue just like we normally would,” Martin said. “All your classes should meet.”
Students will complete classes in the community building, the Lake City Public Library and several churches, all located within a block of the city square. Community organizations are providing lunch for students each day, and bottled water, donated by the American Red Cross, will be available in each building. School officials created a block schedule, allowing each class to meet four times before the end of the year. Martin said teachers will decide which classes will take the end-of-semester tests.
