South Central Calhoun won nine events and brought home the 2018 Jim Yunek Co-Ed Relays boys meet championship Friday, May 4 in Lake City. The Titans scored 167 points while Southeast Valley was second with 92 and Pocahontas Area was third with 85.
Winning event titles for the Titans was Chase McAlister in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run, Spencer Moon in the 1,600 and 3,200, Colton Bahr in the high jump, the Titans 4x200 relay, their 4x400 relay, the sprint medley and the distance medley relay as well.
“After losing out on our conference meet (due to weather), I thought our kids came back and focused and performed very well,” said SCC head boys track coach Bryan Case. “We’re still trying to work a few kinks out heading into districts next week, but I like the way our guys are competing. If we can iron out some of the little details, I think we could have a good showing at districts and possibly put ourselves in the hunt for a district title.”
McAlister won the 400 in 50.31 seconds while taking first in the 800 in 1:59.96. Moon finished the 1,600 in 4:42.38 while he was the winner in the 3,200 as well in 9:59.44 and he placed second in the 800 in 2:00.98.
