SCC boys fall at home to Raiders

South Central Calhoun's varsity boys basketball team wrapped up its regular season Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Rockwell City as the Titans hosted rival East Sac County for Parents Night. The Raiders would gradually pull away from the Titans (8-13) to a 55-29 victory as ESC outscored SCC 14-5 in the second period to lead 21-11 at the half. By the end of the third period, the Raiders led 32-19.
For SCC, the Titans were led by Jared Birks with 10 points and six rebounds. Zane Neubaum scored six points and had four rebounds while Josh Henkenius had five points and three rebounds and Jacob Nicholson finished with four points and seven rebounds. Also scoring points for the Titans were Sam Musselman with two points and Landon Schleisman and Mitchell Clark with one point each.
Matthew Clark led in assists with two for SCC while Neubaum added one assist. For the game, SCC was 10-for-50 from the floor, including 2-for-13 from three-point range. The Titans were 7-for-13 from the free throw line.
SCC's final regular season game at Storm Lake High, which was scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8 in Storm Lake, was cancelled due to a snowstorm.
Next up for SCC was the first round of Class 2A district basketball play in Manson Monday, Feb. 12 against Sioux Central. The Titans faced the Rebels at 6:30 p.m. and the winner of the contest is scheduled to play against Alta-Aurelia in Alta Thursday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
