RAGBRAI riders tour Calhoun County

As cyclists pedaled into Pomeroy, Paul Johnson waved and offered high fives as greetings.
Johnson, who knows one of the organizers of the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, said he’s joked for years that cyclists should visit the small town in northern Calhoun County.
“It’s great,” he said of the visitors who made it to Pomeroy, the reward at the end of a gravel loop that only a handful of the estimated 10,000 ride participants took. “I’m just happy they’re here.”
In Pomeroy, cyclists found food, drinks, live music and a souvenir for surviving the gravel.
