The new radar signs, which the City of Lake City purchased with help from an Iowa Communities Assurance Pool grant earlier this year, are reaping all kinds of data.
City Administrator Eric Wood told the city council Nov. 5 the signs record vehicle speeds both as the cars approach the signs and as they move away.
On the city’s west side, the highest speed recorded from when the signs were installed in August through late October was 97 miles per hour, heading out of town, Wood said. The highest speed approaching the sign was 65 mph.
On the east side, the sign recorded a vehicle moving 100 mph out of town.
