Public Health helping county residents battle bed bugs

Bed bugs are a recurring problem in Calhoun County, and they’ve returned to a skilled nursing facility here, Public Health officials said Wednesday.
“We’ve got quite a problem,” Environmental Health Manager Shelly Schossow said during a Calhoun County Health Board meeting at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital.
The biggest of the local infestations started about a year ago, at a nursing home, Public Health Administrator Jane Condon said. At the time, employees there were concerned about taking the biting bugs home. Later, nursing home staff began to suspect a staff member was bringing the bugs back in to the facility, Condon said.
Health officials asked The Graphic-Advocate not to name the facility to protect residents’ privacy.
