Preschool tests pumpkin theory

Students in Melissa Lamaak’s 3-year-old preschool class were talking about pumpkins last week when they had a thought.
“One of the kids asked if (pumpkins) bounced,” Lamaak said. “I said, ‘We’ll find out.’”
Lamaak, who teaches preschool at South Central Calhoun High School, enlisted Wade Voith, whose third-floor classroom was perfectly positioned to be the point of origin for some falling pumpkins. On Friday morning, both preschool classes donned their coats, hats and gloves to brave near-freezing temperatures to see just what would happen when Voith tossed two pumpkins – one big, one small – to the sidewalk on the school’s north side.
Before heading out, Lamaak asked her class what they thought would happen – would the pumpkins bounce?
