More than 90 South Central Calhoun Middle School students stayed home Friday, after parents received a letter Thursday informing them of rumors of threatened violence for that day.
Superintendent Jeff Kruse said Friday morning the school day was progressing as normal, except for the high number of absent students.
In the letter emailed to parents on Thursday, school officials said they were investigating the rumors, which had not been substantiated.
“When a rumor comes in, we investigate, interview with the students that heard about it, communicate with authorities, try to get guidance from them,” Superintendent Jeff Kruse said Thursday afternoon.
Parents on social media and in conversations around the community Friday continued to repeat claims that a student had created a list threatening other students.
“I don’t believe we’ve been able to come up with a list or confirm there ever was a list,” Kruse said.
