South Central Calhoun alumnus Spencer Moon has never ceased to impress. In fact, the freshmen runner at Simpson College has been a pleasant revelation for the Storm.

At the men's side of NCAA Division III Central Region Championships, which took place on Nov. 16 in Waverly, Moon placed 30th overall and helped the Storm take a 10th place finish in the team standings. Moon crossed the finish line with a time of 26:18.6, which was the best outing of his young collegiate career.

In the process, Moon became Simpson's first men's cross country runner to be named All-Region since 1995.

"All season, we felt like we had one of the 10 best squads in the region, so it was great to see that showcased today," said Simpson cross country coach Heath Moenck. "Spencer's perfromance was outstanding and one of our better freshman races in school history."

Aside from Wartburg, Carleton (Minn.) and St. Olaf (Minn.), the Storm was the only other squad who had all runners finish 80th or better. It was also Simpson's second top-10 team performance at the regional meet in three seasons.

Moon has been stellar during the 2019 autumn campaign, recently placing the Storm sixth in the American Rivers Conference Championships, held on Nov. 2 in Dubuque. There, Moon paced Simpson with a 24th place finish and a time of 28:09.9.
