McAlister, Goodman win TLC titles

Chase McAlister and Brody Goodman came away with Twin Lakes Conference championships for the South Central Calhoun varsity wrestling team Saturday, Jan. 13 in Gowrie at the 2018 TLC conference wrestling championships hosted by Southeast Valley High School.
McAlister was champion at 145 pounds for SCC as he went 3-0 to improve to 33-2 overall in 2017-18 while Goodman earned the title at 160 pounds, going 3-0 and upping his overall season’s mark to 33-3. As team, SCC was seventh in the team standings with 110 points. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire won the 2018 TLC team championship with 207 points. Newcomer to the conference, Emmetsburg, was second with 178.5 while host Southeast Valley was third with 154.5.
McAlister earned his title by defeating Brett Hoyman of Emmetsburg in the title match by a 8-1 decision. Goodman earned his title win a championship match victory over Nate Larson of GT/RA by a 9-0 major decision.
Taking home third place for SCC at the conference meet was Jordan Khommanyvong at 138 pounds as he was 3-1 on the day and moved his record to 29-4 overall.
