Lohrville residents learn more about human trafficking in Iowa

There’s a question a stranger can pose to a teen online that seems innocuous but can pose significant danger, Amber Lawrence of Teens Against Human Trafficking told Lohrville residents Nov. 14.
“You seem sad, what’s bothering you,” is perfectly acceptable coming from parents, teachers or other adults involved in a child’s life, Lawrence said. But when it comes from a stranger online, children, particularly middle school students, need to know it’s not OK.
Adults have done a good job of teaching children not to give out personal information to strangers online, but questions like the one she presented are harder for young teens to perceive as dangerous.
“It’s a little bit grayer for them,” Lawrence said.
