Gabe and Faith Blaskovich both grew up on Iowa family farms – his near Lohrville, hers by Rembrandt, in Buena Vista County.
Last month, the Iowa Department of Agriculture bestowed Century Farm designations on both of their family farms, during a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair.
The couple met in college, married and settled in Story City, where they lived for several years while Gabe designed software. But when Gabe’s father indicated he was ready to retire, Gabe made the case to move to Lohrville and take over the farm on Purgatory Creek, which had been in the family since 1913.
“It’s more than a piece of ground,” Blaskovich said of the farmland his family has managed for more than a century. “It’s all of the stories.”
