Thirty-six families in Lake City, Lohrville, Yetter, Lanesboro and the rural areas in between received big gift and food donations before Christmas, thanks to donors from the surrounding communities.
For more than 30 years, volunteers affiliated with St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake City have organized the toy and food present distribution, Judy Hungate said.
“Of these 36 families, all but two were adopted,” she said.
The biggest supporter of the project this year was Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, where departments and individuals picked up information about 28 of the families. Contrast that kind of support with some past Christmases.
“There were years we worried we wouldn’t have enough money to do anything,” Hungate said.
