Lake City Flowers broadens inventory by offering clothes

For nearly three decades, Patrick Vanderheiden has been designing floral arrangements and helping Lake City residents find the right décor for their homes.
This spring, Vanderheiden was looking to shake things up and find a new way to bring customers through the door. He opted to bring in a line of clothes, jewelry and purses.
“I wanted something new, something the town didn’t have,” Vanderheiden said. “I wanted a change.”
So he headed to Las Vegas to visit a big market – along with about 55,000 other people – and perused 14 floors of items, everything from clothing to toys and holiday decor. He brought back women’s clothing, jewelry and purses, plus new brands of candles and a line of seasoning mix for crackers.
