Lake City Council advances nuisance ordinance

Much of the feedback Lake City Council members have gotten about a nuisance property ordinance has been positive, city officials said.
But at the July 20 meeting, one city resident came to ask the council not to consider his house when looking at homes that need to be repaired.
“I’m concerned about my old house,” Dennis Stephenson said, referring to a home on East Main Street. “My plan is to fix it.”
When council members pressed Stephenson on his time frame, he initially balked at providing them that information. As the conversation between Stephenson and several council members became more animated, Stephenson let slip that he planned to put a new roof on the house this fall.
