South Central Calhoun senior Mason Merkley wanted to honor his friend, the late Jacy McAlexander. The multi-sport athlete had a brilliant idea on how to preserve his friend’s legacy.
Merkley, along with LifeServe Blood Center of Sioux City, will conduct the Jacy McAlexander Memorial Blood Drive from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday at Lake City Union Church.
“While donating blood a couple months ago, LifeServe told me about an opportunity to host my very own scholarship blood drive,” Merkley said. “It instantly hit me that I could host a blood drive in Jacy’s honor. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to not only help give back, but to continue to share Jacy’s story.”
Thanks to blood transfusions, Jacy was able to fight valiantly against Ewing’s sarcoma, until his passing in May of 2018.
