Before the harvest and as the new school year begins, the South Central Calhoun chapter of the Future Farmers of America wants to start things off right.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the SCC FFA farm, located two miles north of Lanesboro, the chapter will host its annual Field Night.
The meal starts at 6:15 p.m., with the Calhoun County Cattlemen grilling steak sandwiches for the occasion. Along with the steak sandwiches, the FFA members will bring various salads and desserts.
All FFA members are required to be at the well attended event, which attracts more than 200 people.
The featured guest speaker of the Field Night is Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Julie Kenney. Kenney grew up two miles east of the FFA Farm near Lohrville and was appointed to her position in 2018.
