Instructional coaches highlight collaborative approach for SCC board

A mission of the state’s teacher leadership compensation program is to create more transparency in how school districts operate, a South Central Calhoun instructional coach told the SCC school board Sept. 19.
“We thought we should start by sharing about the committees we have in each building,” Erin Blair said.
Blair, formerly a vocal music teacher, was assigned to SCC Elementary, and has been helping that building’s established committees shift to address the goals outlined by Iowa education officials. One new initiative this year, Blair said, has been an attempt to curb rambunctious behavior before school starts. Teachers began bringing carts of books to the elementary multipurpose room, where younger students wait between arriving and heading to their classroom each morning.
