Energy rep to King: Supporters are unhappy with renewable fuel situation

Bill Horan reminded U.S. Rep. Steve King about his longtime support of the Congressman, before Horan passed along some criticism he’s hearing from fellow members of the Western Iowa Energy board of directors.
“Some of these people are pretty furious with you not being out front fighting the EPA on the renewable energy waivers,” Horan told King during a roundtable meeting Aug. 27 with farmers at the Calhoun County REC. “These RIN waivers are killing us.”
Iowa’s congressional delegation has been vocal about its desire to see the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stop granting waivers allowing fuel companies to avoid producing required amounts of ethanol fuel. The EPA has expanded who can receive the waivers, which were initially created for smaller refineries, allowing multibillion dollar corporations to claim that processing biofuel is a financial hardship.
