Elementary school students ready for a new year

Madilyn Pruitt was all smiles as she walked up the sidewalk into South Central Calhoun Elementary School Thursday morning.
Pruitt, 7, navigated her way through the school gym to grab breakfast with her sister, then sat down to eat before beginning the first day of first grade.
Math is her favorite subject, she said, “because I like to concentrate doing it.”
Pruitt spent the summer swimming and staying overnight at her grandma’s house, she said.
