Decathlon Dynasty: SCC wins eighth straight small school championship

For the eighth consecutive year, the South Central Calhoun Academic Decathlon team is Iowa’s small school champion.
At the Iowa Academic Decathlon State Competition, held from March 1 and March 2 at A-D-M High School in Adel, SCC outscored 11 other Iowa small schools – as well as 11 out of 12 large schools – to continue their championship streak.
SCC’s team total of 38,673 points was the fourth highest in team history, and the fifth highest total ever earned by an Iowa small school Academic Decathlon team. Grundy Center/Dike- New Hartford finished a distant second with 31,938 points while Union Community of LaPorte City placed third with 31,812 points.
Representing SCC at the Honors level in the competition were senior Austin Olberding, senior Cara Voorde and sophomore Maggie Armstrong.
