The Rockwell City Council opted not to extend health insurance for the children and widow of a city police officer killed in 2013.
Amanda Buenting has been asking the council to extend health insurance benefits, fully or partially, for more than a year. She began making the requests as she approached the five-year anniversary of Officer Jamie Buenting’s death. The city council after his death voted to grant the Buenting family health insurance for five years after the officer’s death.
“Jamie’s commitment was longer than five years,” Buenting said to council members at their Sept. 4 meeting. “Is there any reason why you won’t continue past five years?”
Mayor Phil Heinlen said no.
