The Calhoun County Conservation Board is moving ahead with a request to install playground equipment at Treman Park, on the north end of North Twin Lake.
A group of Twin Lakes residents formed an organization called PLAY to promote the playground. Group members approached the Conservation Board in September to ask the board to split the $25,000 cost to purchase the play structure. The play area will be sited to the northwest of the Treman Park restrooms, a grassy area surrounded by trees. Just one tree, which isn’t in good health, will need to be removed to clear space for the playground, Conservation Director Curtis Vanderheiden told the board.
Conservation Board members approved the request, but adjusting the cost-share percentages. PLAY members had asked for the county to pick up 80 percent of the cost, with the group contributing 20 percent. Conservation board members, discussing the bike trail project at the lake, said they thought a 60-40 split was more appropriate. At that split, the county will pay about $15,000 and the PLAY group will need to raise about $10,000. Board members agreed to pick up the annual maintenance fee for the playground, which will cost about $1,600 every three years.
