Stewart Memorial Community Hospital CEO Heather Cain will resign in July.
Cain announced the resignation to employees Monday and publicly today.
“It’s been a tough week,” Cain said. “It’s been a difficult decision.”
Cain isn’t leaving Stewart Memorial for another job, but rather to get her family closer to extended relatives and her children’s father. Right now, she said, her kids travel six hours each weekend to see their dad. The family’s planned move to Boone will shorten that significantly. Her daughter will enter eighth grade next year, and Cain said this summer seemed like the ideal time to move, especially since her children supported the decision. The move also brings Cain and her children closer, geographically, to her fiancé’s older children, grandchildren and relatives.
The hardest part about the move, Cain said, is leaving behind the hospital employees, to whom she has grown close in the two and a half years she has worked in Lake City.
“I love the people here,” Cain said. “The team is amazing. The leadership team is just fantastic.”
