Over the course of nearly 13 years, Sweet Things has become a staple in downtown Lake City. Visitors from near and far have come through the doors, sat down and enjoyed the comfort food offered at the restaurant.
Headed up by owner and operator Peggy Von Ahn, the intimate eating establishment located off of Main Street is the place to be for breakfast, baked goods, cookies, cakes and lunch.
Prior to beginning Sweet Things in 2006, Von Ahn had mastered the art and science of baking cake.
“The reason why I began this line of work was because I was making cakes out of my home for 10 years, and it became too busy for me to bake cakes and work a regular job,” Von Ahn said.
Even though the idea came about from the notion of baked goodies, Sweet Things quickly expanded its menu to include sandwiches and an all-day breakfast.
“The name was decided based on my initial idea of just baking cakes and sweets,” Von Ahn said of how she landed on the name. “Many customers were coming in and asking for sandwiches, and that was how my lunch rush began. From there, it sprouted into an all-day breakfast menu.”
Sweet Things’ hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday. On Saturday, the restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. for breakfast.
