Birks brings home state medal in 200 for SCC girls

South Central Calhoun senior track standout Allison Birks medaled in her final event she ran for the Titans girls track program at the 2017 Class 2A Girls State Track and Field meet, which concluded Saturday, May 20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Birks posted a time of 26.87 seconds in the 200-meter dash finals in Class 2A May 20 to earn the team’s only medal of the three-day weekend for the Titans. She posted a 200-meter dash preliminary time of 26.17 Thursday, May 18, to qualify for the finals with the sixth fastest time in the 200.
The Titans had seven events total competing at the 2017 Class 2A state tournament with three of those events competing on the opening day of the meet Thursday, May 18. Kaylynn Ridgely competed in the 2A girls long jump with a leap of 14-feet, 4.25-inches, which was good for 22nd place Thursday. Birks first ran in the 200-meter dash prelims Thursday afternoon, and then she also competed in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 12.96, which ranked her 14th in the preliminary times.
